Position Summary |
The objective of this position is to work on alphavirus nsP2 helicase enzymology. We will require this person to characterize the binding of fluorescent
ATP analogues to the nsP2 enzyme and derivatives using stopped-flow fluorescence. These experiments will enable us to understand the kinetics and thermodynamics of binding of substrate to nsP2 in the absence and presence of chemical inhibitors in order to inform on mechanism of action. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
General knowledge of applicable area of biochemistry and molecular biology techniques to perform laboratory procedures and tests in support of research protocol.
Ability to conduct routine tests and procedures dictated by the research protocols. For example, ability to make solutions, reagents, media, plates, competent cells.
Ability to organize and tabulate data; plot and graph data and fit to required equations, ability to ensure quality control of data collection.
Ability to perform minor repairs and operate equipment and instruments in support of research laboratory with limited supervision. Ability to assist in the layout and maintenance of lab environment-ability to interface with technical support for general lab maintenance of lab equipment. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Laboratory research experience outside of coursework is strongly preferred. |
