Position Summary The Department of Cell Biology and Physiology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine invites applications for a Tenure-track, Assistant Professor faculty position to build and sustain an active research program in cardiovascular physiology and disease. We are particularly interested in candidates with strong interests in basic biomedical research that complement existing departmental strengths in vascular biology, systemic hypertension, endothelial biology, ion channel physiology, signal transduction, glycocalyx function, and mitochondrial biology. The department is home to the Minority Institutional Research Training Program (T32), which has been training graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in Cardiovascular Research for almost 30 years. The successful candidate will benefit from the exceptional opportunities for synergism and interactions with members of the four basic science departments, clinician-scientists in the Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC), and the UNM Health Sciences Center signature programs, including the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease Signature Program

The major research programs within the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology include vascular physiology, pulmonary and systemic hypertension, vascular inflammation, cancer genetics and signaling, and neuronal development and angiogenesis in fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. The successful applicant will develop a rigorous and independent research program and participate in departmental activities including graduate and/or medical school teaching.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD, MD, or equivalent

  • Postdoctoral experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Independent funded research program, or strong potential for obtaining R01 or equivalent funding, as evidenced by funding history, high-quality publications, and research plan

  • Potential for research interactions with department members

  • Potential for participating in institutional educational activities

  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
