This employee is designated as 'mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.
Primary Purpose of Position
This position is the Building Environmental Services Lead Technician, responsible for assisting in overseeing personnel and procedures of all employees on the Team, Tuesday - Saturday activities of the Building Services unit, and as building and programmatic needs dictate. Responsible for team leadership in the absence of the Building Environmental Services Supervisor.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. High school diploma or GED equivalency.
University Preferred Qualifications:

Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, two years of experience demonstrating the ability to operate specialized floor-cleaning or other cleaning equipment and in performing medium to heavy physical work; or three years of experience as a housekeeper; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. High school diploma or GED equivalency.
Essential Job Duties
The Building Environmental Technician performs under the direction of the Building Environmental Services ( BES) Zone Supervisor.
Duties Include:
1. Maintain equipment inventory and repair records.
2. Compile maintenance checklist and report needs to BES Zone Supervisor.
3. Complete individual duties and responsibilities as assigned; check the work of other crew members and correct deficiencies.
4. Test and suggest recommendations on supply and equipment purchases.
Other Work Responsibilities
1. Demonstrate the proper use of and instruct team members in the proper use and care of all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in floor maintenance, housekeeping, recycling, event support, and trash removal functions.
2. Encourage team members to follow established Building Environmental Services, Facilities Management, UNC Charlotte University, and State Policies and Procedures.
3. Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.

  • Two years' experience demonstrating the ability to operate specialized floor-cleaning or other cleaning equipment and in performing medium to heavy physical work; or three years of experience as a housekeeper; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.
  • Ability to properly use and care for all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in Building Environmental Services and floor care functions.
  • Supervisory experience desired.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension) required.
  • Effective skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication are required.
  • Computer literate.
  • Knowledge and skill with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs required.
  • Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
  • The selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the position's essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.

Necessary Licenses or Certifications

  • Where applicable, must be eligible for required certification.
  • A valid driver's license is required. The BES Technician operates assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment to the position.
