This position provides medical nutrition therapy to patients and their families, along with consultation to the interdisciplinary care team on service. Provision of medical nutrition therapy is according to standards of practice, policies and procedures. It includes, but is not limited to, nutritional assessment, diet calculation, coordination of nutritional services with the patient care team, patient food services, and community agencies, participation in case conferences, and continuity of care. This position participates in multidisciplinary team and department committees and projects and may participate in promotional or community activities for the medical center.
This position contributes to the dietetic internship: may precept dietetic interns, teach assigned classes, and may participate in curriculum development for an assigned area.
Primary responsibilities include application of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) including completion of the nutrition assessment, determination of the nutrition diagnosis, development and implementation of nutrition intervention(s), and monitoring and evaluation of the patient's progress.
The Clinical Dietitian uses the Scope of Dietetics Practice Framework (SODPF) to determine scope of practice, established Standards of Practice and Professional Performance (SOP/SOPP) in nutrition care and practice-specific dietetics, and as available, evidence-based practice protocols/nutrition practice guidelines to help determine nutrition intervention(s).

Minimum Qualifications
- Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) registered with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Commission on Dietetic Registration
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Certification required based on area assignment within 3 months of hire or upon an assignment change requiring BLS.
- Bachelor's (or higher degree) in Dietetics, Nutrition, or related field or equivalent degree.
- Successful completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice experience, approved or accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
- Strong academic background and applied background in clinical nutrition.
- Knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapy principles, including enteral and parenteral nutrition support.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to understand and be understood in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialty Certification in area of practice preferred (e.g., but not limited to, CNSC, CSO, CDCES, CSR, CSG, CSP, CSPCC, CSOWM, CSSD, RDN-AP/RD-AP, etc.)
- For Pediatric positions/assignments: California Children's Services (CCS) Dietitian Paneling designation (or eligible to obtain within one year) is strongly preferred.
- Two (2) or more years relevant work experience preferred.
- Knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapy principles in pediatric populations preferred.
- For Pediatric positions/assignments: Pediatric work experience strongly preferred.
- Work experience or majority of clinical training in a large teaching hospital/academic medical center.
- Experience using electronic medical record (EMR).
- Experience teaching and supervising dietetic interns or other students.
