Job Purpose

  • The Cloud Database Administrator is responsible for implementing and maintaining Cloud-based database systems. The individual will work closely with stakeholders to design, implement, and manage databases in the environment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Setup / Configure Database Instances in the Cloud, Create Databases, Allocate resources such as Storage / Compute / Memory. Implement strategies for HA, Failover DR and Replication. Perform deployments and run periodic backups. Establish access and authentication controls to secure data, setup encryption, masking as required.
  • Resolve platform related issues. Coordinate with vendors for product related issues, patches, bug fixes and perform upgrades. Fine-tune database systems to enhance performance, scalability, and reliability - including monitoring and optimizing database query performance, indexing etc.
  • Meet with application teams to understand new / enhancement requirements and recommend high-level direction and approach to upcoming projects.
  • Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders on defining and implementing technology direction/roadmap within the cloud database technology space.
  • Assist in migrating on-premises databases to the cloud and integrating data from various sources into cloud-based systems.

Workstyle

  • Hybrid - 2 to 3 days per workweek presence at the local office in Ohio is required

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Education:

    • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology and/or equivalent industry experience.




  • Minimum qualifying skills:

    • 5 to 7 years of Database Administration experience. with any of the database management systems (Microsoft SQL Server, DB2 LUW, Oracle, PostgreSQL etc.).
    • 3 to 5 years experience with NoSQL database systems (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Azure Cosmos DB, Neo4j, Neptune etc.).
    • 3 to 5 years of experience with cloud-based database technologies (Amazon AWS S3, RDS, Redshift, Aurora etc.). Knowledge of Microsoft Azure SQL Database or Google Cloud SQL is plus.
    • 1 to 3 years experience working with large database / large scale projects.
    • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts, virtualization, and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) platforms.




  • Other job-specific skills:

    • Be a team player and contribute to the team's success.
    • Willingness to learn and adapt to emerging technologies.
    • Good knowledge of Project Management principles.
    • Excellent verbal communication skills, strong visual presentation skills.
    • Ability to analyze critical information, assess upstream/downstream impact, and formulate broad recommendations.
