THE POSITION

The Department of Environmental Protection is on the lookout for a qualified individual to take on the role of Air Monitoring Equipment Specialist. This pivotal position involves overseeing ambient air monitoring initiatives, which include the maintenance and functioning of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Air Monitoring System (COPAMS) as well as managing remote air monitoring devices, discrete samplers, and various other instruments mandated by both Federal and State Clean Air Acts. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will conduct preventive maintenance (PM) biweekly at remote locations in accordance with established protocols. The purpose of PM is to avert significant failures in air monitoring instruments. Responsibilities include performing maintenance and troubleshooting on air monitoring devices, replacing instrument filters, replenishing air drying or purification chemicals, cleaning sampling manifolds, and verifying cylinder pressures along with sensor parameters. You will also be responsible for the operation and upkeep of specialized toxic monitoring equipment. Additionally, you will calibrate air monitoring instruments by introducing known concentrations of calibration gases into analyzers and fine-tuning the instrument's flow and electronic correction settings as necessary.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,890.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • An associate's degree in electronics, electrical engineering technology or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
