POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

Position Overview:

The Plumber is to install and repair pipes and fixtures that carry water, gas, or other fluids on NAS Pensacola and surrounding government properties.

Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):



  • Assembles, installs, modifies, and repairs, pipes, fittings, fixtures, various types of valves, backflow preventers, sewage systems, water distribution systems, grease traps, oily water separators, drainage systems, water closets, tubs, showers, faucets, sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, according to specifications and plumbing codes.
  • Studies building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall, and proper operation of systems and equipment to determine work aids required, and sequence of installations.
  • Locates and/or marks position of pipe and pipe connections, cuts openings for passage holes of pipes in walls and floors, uses rulers, shop mathematics, levels, plumb bobs and hand tools or power tools.
  • Cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, ratchet threader and pipe-threading machine.
  • Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, traps, unions, and pipes composed of metals such as iron, galvanized, steel, brass, lead, and nonmetals such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Joins pipe by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, and plastic adhesives/glues.
  • Finds the source of leaks and blockages, fixes or replaces broken parts, and tests the plumbing system
  • Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking over time.
  • Opens clogged drains with augers, electric powered or hydrostatic equipment.
  • Initiates material requisitions to order parts/materials needed for repairs.
  • Complies with all OSHA safety regulations and standards.
  • Complete Work Orders/time sheets daily and accurately.
  • Use Safety Data Sheets to identify chemical characteristics.
  • Work also involves other duties as assigned.


Pay: $36.83 per hour

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Five years Commercial Plumbing experience relevant to the job description (previous positions held which only involved typical household plumbing does not count towards this experience requirement).
  • Basic knowledge of the National Plumbing Code required.
  • State of Florida Class "E" driver's license or equivalent is required.
  • Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Training and Certification is required or become certified within 90 days of the hire date required.
