Essential Job Duties |
Join our dynamic team as a
Facilities Maintenance Technician at NC State University, where you will play a key role in maintaining and ensuring the smooth operation of our campus facilities. This role is assigned to one of our zone maintenance shops-either on the main campus, Centennial Campus, or
CBC (Veterinary School) campus-you will be responsible for assisting with the maintenance, repair, and operation of building systems such as
HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing. This is an exciting opportunity for semi-skilled workers who are eager to grow and learn, as you will participate in our

Key Responsibilities and duties include but not limited to:
- Develop knowledge of routine repairs in various trades, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, steam systems, and fume hoods
- Repair leaks, check boiler levels, assist with pipe installation, and perform basic preventive maintenance (PM) and electrical/plumbing repairs
- Follow established procedures for isolating and locking out systems to ensure safety
- Cross-train in the operation of all building equipment systems
- Follow preventative maintenance instructions and timelines, ensuring that all work is completed efficiently and accurately
- Take readings on boilers and chillers, reporting discrepancies and maintaining accurate records for all equipment
- Monitor and adjust chemical levels in assigned systems to ensure proper maintenance
- Ensure the safety of campus facilities by maintaining equipment and adhering to all safety policies, procedures, and best practices

Other Responsibilities |
- This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor
- May be required to be on-call
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Some knowledge or understanding in the maintenance or building system trades.
- Able to communicate effectively with supervisors and the general public, and is able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and other communications related to work assignments and other matters.
- Able to lift up to 90 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations.

- Experience in HVAC, steam, plumbing, and electrical trades.

- Valid North Carolina driver's license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained
