Summary

In alignment with Gift of Life Michigan's core purpose and core values, the Hospital Donation Advocate (HDA) is responsible for creating a hospital environment which helps facilitate organ and tissue recovery by providing necessary resources and information to our customers and partners.


Duties & Responsibilities

The following job duties and responsibilities are stated in broad terms and not intended to be inclusive. Those in bold are essential duties of the position:



  • Manage active organ referrals within assigned hospitals.
  • Understand that hospital presence is vital to Gift of Life's core purpose and includes daily education at assigned hospitals and response to referrals.
  • Establish relationships with key physicians.
  • Develop and implement customized strategic plans for targeted hospitals.
  • Conduct timely referral and donor follow-up to assigned hospitals.
  • Collaborate with Palliative Care, or its equivalent, as it relates to donation in situations of withdrawal of life-sustaining therapy.
  • Maintain awareness of current healthcare literature concerning organ and tissue donation.
  • Maintain accurate documentation according to department policies.
  • Communicate information to Gift of Life clinical staff regarding post referral/recovery feedback and overall donor status within the hospital.
  • Stay current and involved in the regional and national collaborative opportunities for the organ and tissue procurement community.
  • Seek and implement quality improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in ongoing healthcare educational displays and exhibits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
Required

  • A bachelor's degree in a field related to the essential duties of the position, including but not limited to healthcare related (biology, exercise science, etc.), marketing, communications, and business development.
  • At least 1 year work experience in a hospital or similar setting.


Preferred

  • Two or more years' experience, including ICU or other critical care setting.
  • Prior experience in a transplant center or organ/tissue procurement organization.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

  • Written and verbal fluency in English.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook and Teams and other technology systems used in business operations.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with hospital systems and hospital personnel structure.
  • Ability to establish relationships and work diplomatically with key stakeholders.
  • Patience and comfort for the death and dying process.
  • Comprehension of the donation process and associated documentation requirements.
  • Quality improvement skills.
