Position Overview
Facilities Services supports KU's mission of learning, scholarship, and creative endeavor by operating and maintaining the University's physical plant and grounds. The incumbent is responsible for working on a team to perform a wide variety of maintenance and emergency repair tasks to University buildings (physical structure, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems), with the employee being involved in a regular program of inspection and repair at a journeyman level using more than one skilled trade. This position requires the operation of work issued vehicles.

Job Description
50% - This is a general maintenance position to assist in the construction, repair and preventative maintenance of the physical campus infrastructure. Assists with new construction, flooring, windows, doors, ceilings, window coverings, roofs - including inspecting and repair, gutters and flashings and other physical environment issues. May assist with sheetrock, painting, wall coverings and other finishing materials. Uses a variety of bench and hand tools.

40% - Responds to emergency calls and customer requests for various physical environment issues like doors, windows, ceilings, walls, flooring, roofs, water penetration and other issues. Sees issues through to completion and/or requests assistance from appropriate staff and leadership.

5% - Other Related Work as Assigned: Maintains an adequate supply of tools, parts, and supplies for jobs. Responds to after-hours emergency calls as needed. Assists with other maintenance areas and in other work areas as assigned. Assists with snow removal and surface treatment.

5% - Performs other related work as assigned.

Position Requirements
  1. Reach, grasp, hold, lift and place moderately heavy loads and heavy loads occasionally (50 lbs) with or without accommodation.
  2. Perform work above normal heights, in confined spaces and extreme temperatures (hot and cold) inside and outdoors.
  3. Operate work issued vehicles for transporting staff and materials
  4. Work occasional planned and unplanned overtime as needed including responding to after-hours emergencies as needed.
  5. Report to work during declared periods of inclement weather.
  6. Must digitally enter work order information and perform other electronic communications as required.

Required Qualifications
  1. High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.
  2. One year of experience in a skilled craft area. Certificate from a vocational school or an associate's degree in a building or mechanical trade area may be substituted for the required experience.
  3. Must have a valid driver's license by the time of hire and maintain the license throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience in carpentry, paint, roofs, windows, doors, flooring or other building trades.
  2. Knowledge of the standard practices, tools, equipment and materials associated with a variety of skilled crafts and building trades.
  3. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of skilled crafts and building trades.
  4. Ability to read and correctly interpret blueprints, electrical or plumbing schematics.
  5. Experience working in a university, college or multi-building campus environment.
