FIND OUT WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE A PART OF HALLMARK SUPPLY CHAIN

This is a 2nd shift position, 3:30pm - 11:30pm Monday - Friday.

The Large Foil Operator in Lawrence sets up and operates one or more large format machines, including tooling and proofmaking. This can involve a combination of processes and/or multiple work stations to produce greeting cards or specialty products. There could be multiple positions or designs on sheet/web requiring incumbent to set-up each position/design and then perform quality checks throughout the run on each position/design. The machinery is of varying vintages, manufacturers, and types with multiple variables impacting press performance. Incumbent is expected to be proficient on multiple assignments within this job classification - meeting cost, quality, and service standards on all. The incumbent must exhibit great attention to detail and above average math skills to maintain close tolerances related die and counter measurements, chemical bath solution composition and proper alignments. They will monitor backlogs and follow FIFO principles demonstrating flexibility depending on business needs.

Position may be in various manufacturing departments and incumbent will be expected to learn and perform multiple assignments within this job classification.

In this position you will:



  • Performs make-ready procedures on several presses. Must have mechanical aptitude to understand the relationship between the multiple variables involved - examples would be heat settings, pressure settings, speed, register, foil pull length, multiple foil colors, and multiple foil vendors - to achieve desired result. Process will be foil stamping extruding with multiple positions on the sheet/web. Verifies accuracy of incoming files and tooling. Maintains tight tolerances for tooling which includes dies, counters, cylinders and/or proofs. Operates and maintains all equipment in the tooling area. Operates presses or uses nickel plating system, etcher, saws and photographing equipment to produce and/or duplicate dies and counters.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and make needed press adjustments to quickly resolve issue to meet specified production targets. Participate in performance dialogues and team problem-solving activities. Identifies potential problems and proactively works on problem resolution and alternative solutions to traditional methods of operations. Steps up as the leader of the team to help drive positive performance.
  • Executes Quality system including preflight, sampling plan and the removal of salvage/spoilage. Follows the quality standards and procedures set for the process. Records production, shipping, and/or spoilage information into SAP application.
  • Completes regular press maintenance and cleaning including TPM/MIRCs. Performs proper start up and shut down procedures for the extrusion equipment. Transports and handles hazardous waste materials in the form of reclaimed ink or solvents in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations. Moves skids of stock into and away from the press with power lift equipment. Operates skid inverting machine.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and teamwork to positively influence how goals are accomplished within shorter periods of time. Have a sense of urgency to ensure cycle times are being met and customers are pleased with their performance and level of service. Positive communication with peers to keep everyone current on day-to-day process. Creatively think outside the scope to see how you can help others.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

The following is required to be considered for this role:



  • You're at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to grasp, lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 lbs frequently and 60 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to pass color perception test
  • Ability to frequently reach, twist, bend, and perform repetitive hand/wrist motion and fine motor skills
  • Ability to regularly work at or above shoulder level and in awkward positions
  • Ability to stand and/or walk 90% of the time.
  • Ability to lay flat on top of a press 12 ft in the air.
  • Ability to bend under the press and lift 15 lbs. overhead.
  • Ability to read low-res color vinyl.
  • Ability to work around surfaces with heats above 250 degrees.
  • Ability to read tap measure (Metric and Standard).
  • Must have above average Math Skills for Foil ordering and Foil pull length accuracy.
  • Ability to be flexible to train on a different shift then posting has stated.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Good math, written and oral communication skills and ability to learn and retain knowledge. Math skills require computations such as percentages, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Good safety practices: ability to understand and follow established safety procedures.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and to work under pressure to meet or exceed production requirements.
  • Good planning and organizational skills to set up work area and manage workflow.
  • Small foil experience preferred.



ADDITIONAL DETAILS



  • Work overtime as required during peak seasons


  • Must be certified to operate power lift equipment and skid inverting machine
  • This is a climate-controlled manufacturing environment with normal physical injury hazard.
  • There is some noise and hearing protection is required by Hallmark.



This position is located in Lawrence, Kansas. Relocation is not provided.
