Research Senior Technician to assist and support scientific investigation to study the molecular mechanisms of cardiometabolic diseases as directed in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Tranter in the Department of Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics. The ongoing work in the lab is broadly focused on (1) the pathological progression of cardiac remodeling and fibrosis leading to heart failure, (2) thermogenic metabolism in brown adipose tissue, and (3) adipose tissue-mediated endocrine effects on cardiac physiology. The successful candidate: independently conducts assigned experiments; performs a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures and Western analysis; sorts and processes tissue and blood samples; tests and evaluates current procedures; performs routine procedures on lab animals; records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results; assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepares research progress reports; assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts; conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature; oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities; performs routine procedures on lab animals; maintains and oversees animal breeding colonies and/or transgenic mouse colonies; assists with care of lab animals; assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; sets up and operates laboratory equipment; monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed. Minimum Education Required Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Qualifications Bachelors Degree or equivalent combination of education experience; ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required. Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
