Position Summary
The Public Services Manager in Davis Library plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the library's circulation services. This position involves hiring and managing a team of 30 student workers, managing a team of four full-time staff members, and serving as the primary backup for the Department Head. The Public Services Manager will work collaboratively with colleagues across the Libraries to maintain high service standards and develop user-centered services.
This position coordinates the daily operations of the Davis Library main service desk. They ensure appropriate staffing at the service point, consistent workflows and application of policy, and support colleagues in resolving circulation-related issues. They actively collaborate with colleagues across the University Libraries to ensure a consistent and positive user experience. This position fosters a collaborative and positive work environment, advocating for both staff and user needs.
This position will prepare statistics and reports and advise on resourcing needs for the department. The Public Services Manager will perform the duties of the Department Head in their absence and as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in library management systems and software.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Excellent customer service experience.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Experience supervising or mentoring student employees.
- Experience working in an academic library, particularly providing circulation, information, or basic reference services.
Required Licenses/Certifications
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
- Must have the ability to move loaded carts, with or without accommodations.
- Must have the ability to sit or stand at service desk for entirely of shift, with or without accommodations.
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
