Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The postdoc will conduct observational astronomy research using data from the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory and telescopes available at UNC Chapel Hill. The postdoc will also be encouraged to carry out independent projects. Observing resources available to the Andreoni Transient Astronomy Lab at University of North Carolina include the 4m SOAR telescope in Chile, the wide-field Zwicky Transient Facility on the Palomar 48inch telescope, the Palomar 60inch telescope, and other telescopes in space and on the ground accessible via public proposal calls. The candidate will have the opportunity to work extensively on Rubin Observatory LSST data within the Transients and Variable Stars Science Collaboration
Position Summary
The successful candidate will conduct original research in the field of time-domain astronomy. A primary research objective will be the development of software to search for long-duration high energy transients using the Neil Gehrels Observatory Swift/ BAT, in collaboration with scientists at UNC Chapel Hill and at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
A PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics, or related fields.

Proficiency in Python coding
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Proficiency in statistics; research background in time-domain astronomy; experience in gamma-ray or X-ray astronomy; experience in optical astronomy
