Posting Summary
Rutgers is seeking a Post Doctoral Associate for the Department of Health, Behavior, Society and Policy within the School of Public Health, located in Piscataway, NJ. We seek exceptional candidates to collaborate on research projects related to the social determinants of health among health disparity populations, including men who have sex with men, people who use drugs, and Latino immigrants. For this position, the candidate will work under the direct supervision of the PI on the observational and intervention studies of population health.
The Post Doctoral Associate will lead data management and analysis of large, complex, and longitudinal datasets. The Post Doctoral Associate will also participate in NIH-funded projects and develop their own independent research program, including submitting NIH K- or R- grant applications. There will be opportunities for authorship on publications, presentations at local and national conferences, and collaboration on grant proposal development.

The position has an expected start date of winter 2024; however, the start date is flexible. This position is located in New Jersey. Initial-term of appointment is two years. For this position, the candidate will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Cui Yang on the observational and intervention studies of population health.

Duties include:

  • Manage databases, develop analytical plans, and carry out statistical analysis for manuscripts, reports and presentations using Stata (preferred), R or SAS.
  • Provide support for several NIH-funded projects, including an R01 cohort study on social network and cognitive health among aging Black and Latino sexual minority men in NJ.
  • Lead, draft, and publish papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Minimum Education and Experience
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Doctorate or terminal degree (e.g., PhD, ScD) relevant to population health, including but not limited to Public Health, Epidemiology, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Demography, Biostatistics, Statistics.
  • Knowledge of, and interest in, literature on LGBTQ health, health equity and social determinants of health.
  • Excellent data management and quantitative analysis skills, such as longitudinal and multilevel data analysis, structural equation modeling, and social network analysis.
  • Experience in community engagement with Black or Latino communities.
  • Track record of first authored peer-reviewed publications (as appropriate for level of experience and field of study).
  • Candidates in all-but-degree (ABD) status will also be considered

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous grant writing is not required but is considered a strength.
