Dr. Jonathan P. Singer, Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, USA) is seeking applications from qualified individuals for a full-time postdoctoral associate position working on a combined fundamental and applied project on structural energetics funded by the Defense Advanced Projects Research Agency ( DARPA). The position will begin as early as November 2024 and looks to support ongoing research on the formulation and characterization of microphase separated resin composites for application in this new area. The primary role of a successful candidate will be to develop compositions and processing of these resins that will enable high performance energetics with tunable mechanical properties.
Dr. Singer's lab, the Hybrid Micro/Nanomanufacturing Laboratory ( HMNL, https://hmnl.rutgers.edu), develops techniques that incorporate designer nanostructures into high-throughput manufacturing. The HMNL's objective is to enable industrial, biomedical, and consumer products with the benefits of nanostructure-induced functionality, with applications spanning healthcare, aerospace propulsion and structures, waste energy harvesting, agriculture, and supercapacitors.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
The candidates should have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or other related disciplines. The candidate should have a very strong background in materials processing, ideally resin composites forming. Experience with materials characterization ( e.g., TEM, SEM, CT, FTIR) is preferred.

This project is a part of an ongoing multi-investigator collaboration and will involve close collaborations. Position requires frequent reporting, supervision of undergraduate and graduate students, and public presentations. This is a 2-year appointment that can be renewed based on applicant performance and availability of grant funds.
Equipment Utilized
Materials processing of energetic materials through shear mixing. Universal precautions are mandatory.
