VP, Strategic Project Management In this role you will lead a team of project managers supporting the enterprise that create productive relationships among key business leaders to achieve high levels of collaboration to deliver projects on-time and within budget. As this leader you'll understand and effectively navigate matrixed organizational structures and become a value-added business partner.
You will also be responsible for leading a team that drives best practices for assessing, advising and executing significant business initiatives. You'll establish key practices regarding project design, execution and governance for the entire program life cycle (intake to completion), while maintaining appropriate flexibility to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously. While appropriate levels of planning are crucial for executing large-scale initiatives, SPMO practices will focus most heavily on delivering intended project outcomes. A Day in the life:
Strong ability to lead teams that provide value add project management to the businesses they support fostering a positive team environment and provide direction in ambiguous situations. Provide leadership that drives effective project plans, coordinates resources, manages implementation activities, and develops all processes associated with program rollout along with ongoing support. Understand how individual projects affect the program/portfolio and exercise judgement in raising issues and risks to the program/portfolio level. Have a high degree of competency with project management including, Agile methodology, identifying and managing risks, tracking dependencies and milestones, and communicating overall project status. Maintain strong customer focus while coordinating and collaborating with stakeholders, vendors, and IT resources in implementation of key projects using effective verbal and written communication. Plan and manage out-sourced projects with large components completed by 3rd party vendors. Use negotiation skills, influence, and creativity to achieve successful outcomes around scope, schedule, costs/budget, issues/risks, and resources. Arbitrate and resolve conflict within the program when necessary. Understand appropriate paths and methods for escalation. Build strong working relationships with team members, vendors/contractors, business, and IT partners to aide in effective definition and execution of projects. Ensure the establishment of scope and priorities, management of risks/issues/dependencies, implementation of solutions and change management activities. Assist organizational change management (OCM) in defining the changes to business processes and procedures that will result from the program. Incorporate business process change estimates and contingencies into the overall plan. Perform other duties, as assigned.
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
Master of Business Administration (MBA) or comparable post-graduate academic training preferred but not required. Bachelor degree or comparable academic training in general business, M&A, program/change management, organizational optimization, or closely related discipline desired. 7+ years program management experience with 3-5 of those years of having progressive leadership owning program management of significant initiatives and transformation engagements. Must possess a combination of company/industry knowledge and core consulting skills. Must have additional expertise in one or more key practice areas such as strategic/business planning and performance measurement, process management or organizational effectiveness/development. Any experience in transportation industry extremely nice to have.

Creative problem solving, organization, attention to detail, flexibility and adaptability are crucial to the success of this role. Managing budgets and capacity of teams. Which may include burndown, velocity and quality aspects of the projects. Experience monitoring and managing vendor performance.
