Basic Function

The Compliance Counsel will be responsible for providing advice and counsel to LyondellBasell and its subsidiaries on matters such as, anti-corruption and trade compliance, as well as other traditional compliance issues. This position will be also responsible for implementing, monitoring and continuously improving the company's global compliance programs. This position will be responsible for training, and working with, employees of the company, including senior and executive management, on compliance matters. The Compliance Counsel accomplishes these responsibilities though personal efforts, the management and coordination of staff, and selective use of outside counsel. This position reports to the Lead Counsel Compliance , and has both U.S. and international responsibilities.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate high standards of professional and business ethics
  • Provide advice and counsel regarding compliance issues, particularly anti-corruption and trade compliance
  • Develop, implement and maintain company's global anti-corruption, trade compliance and other compliance programs
  • Implement and support compliance support for mergers and acquisitions
  • Recognize potential conflicts of interest and other issues implicating ethics and compliance
  • Provide advice and counsel regarding issues implicating ethics and compliance
  • Participate in development and management of matter-specific and annual budgets
  • Lead and oversee internal investigations
  • Lead in-person training sessions
  • Perform all activities in a safe manner and ensure the safe work practices of those supervised

Min. Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience required; 5 years preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of, anti-corruption and trade compliance laws in the U.S. and elsewhere
  • Experience leading and overseeing internal investigations
  • Experience leading in-person training sessions
  • Ability to manage conflict and find practical solutions without compromising values
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills
  • Some travel will be required. (10-15%)
  • Multi-lingual skills preferred
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic data management systems
