As a member of the Manufacturing Development Engineering (MDE) team, you'll support initiatives tied to New Product Development (NPD) and Production Manufacturing. At its core the MDE team is the engine for manufacturing technology innovation. This includes the constant search for opportunities to provide step changes in manufacturing capability and efficiency. In this role you'll have an opportunity to drive key projects in the areas of process efficiency, automation, process control, variability reduction, incoming and outgoing material characterization, and equipment definition by understanding process challenges, opportunities, and limitations.

What You'll Be Doing as a CNC Manufacturing/Process Engineer 2:
- Accountable for the safety, quality, and output of CNC parts production processes.
- Providing technical leadership in the development and improvement of manufacturing processes in support of the Manufacturing Engineering and Production roadmaps.
- Own first past yield performance in addition to other process KPIs.
- Continually build expertise in all aspects of the CNC parts production processes including all inputs and outputs.
- Hands-on development with multimillion dollar CNC machines. Working with operators, engineering technicians, maintenance technicians, quality engineers, etc. to build highly controlled processes for 24/7 lights-out manufacturing.
- Evaluates machinery and manufacturing capital requirements, establishes financial impact and performs cost justification to ensure the cost effectiveness of new equipment, processes, and process changes and assists in the development of capital justifications.
- Performing statistical design of experiments, data analysis, and correlation to increase manufacturing performance and reduce variation.
- Design and execution of new part, tool, equipment, and material process validations.
- Document the required activity and variability of process setups in a high part changeover environment to feed into and build robust production planning processes.
- Leverage your expertise with equipment and technological advancements to recommend upgrades to enhance process capabilities and standardization. This includes manufacturing technologies employed to support core production processes (data systems, software, metrology, physical layout, etc.).
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support quality, safety, compliance, and ensure project requirements are met. This includes interaction with suppliers, vendors, consultants and contract engineers to obtain services or support research and analysis activities.
- Collaborate with Design Engineering to define DFM rules and lead the identification and prioritization of required CNC process development areas to support future product roadmaps.
- Represent the Manufacturing Engineering department in NPI activities which include long term engagement frequently starting in R&D and product conception through product end of life.
- Create and maintain comprehensive process documentation including work instructions, process specifications, and other process control systems.
- Develop and track metrics and success criteria for all manufacturing engineering activities.
Skills and Experiences You'll Need as a CNC Manufacturing/Process Engineer 2:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or related field with 7-10+ years of progressive experience leading engineering initiatives in a manufacturing environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Understanding and exposure of various manufacturing processes including machining, casting, molding, assembly, optics, or electronics. Experience with CNC machining highly desired.
- Critical thinker and confident problem solver with expertise in FMEA-like skill-sets and troubleshooting experience on processes, materials, and equipment related issues.
- Experience not just in maintaining but developing highly controlled manufacturing processes from the ground up.
- Proficient in computer aided design (CAD/CAM) and simulation tools; SolidWorks preferred. Experience in logic development and programming (breadth of experience highly desired).
- Advanced understanding and demonstrated experience in driving process consistency in NPI through scaled production.
- Expertise in statistical design of experiments, data analysis, and correlation.
- Thorough understanding of statistical process control and other quality engineering tools. Experience developing SPC systems including chart creation and control limits, response flows, review schedules, feedforward/feedback control (i.e., process control systems).
- Knowledge of lean principles to minimize waste and enhance process flow.
- Good technical and business judgement is required. Must be able to justify engineering decisions and specifications with cost verses benefit, value creation, and/or ROI calculations.
- Collaborative team player with good communication skills and the ability to effectively partner with stakeholders across functional areas
- Knowledge of hunting and shooting sports is a major plus!
Work Environment for a CNC Manufacturing/Process Engineer 2:
Work takes place in a manufacturing and office environment. Must be able to lift up to 40lbs, climb steps on/around manufacturing equipment, and safely manipulate large and very small metal objects. Occasional travel may be required.
