The Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University is seeking a College HR Officer who plays both an oversight and an active management role in leading the college's faculty and staff HR recruiting, hiring, diversity, retention, and development objectives.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

The College HR Officer role reports directly to the Associate Dean, with a dotted line report to the Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration. The College HR Officer actively initiates, leads and manages change in HR processes and practices, in organizational structure, and in faculty and staff development. Success in this role requires achieving operational excellence, becoming a trusted advisor to leadership, faculty and staff, and supporting the objectives of The Robinson College's Accelerate 2025 strategic plan. The College HR Officer may take on other projects as assigned, in addition to those responsibilities listed below.

Change Leadership and Process Management: Collaborates with RCB Leadership, faculty and staff on updating, transforming, and improving faculty and staff HR business processes and procedures consistent with best practices in human resource management and in line with college and university policies and priorities. This may include, but not be limited to, such things as revisiting and improving current business practices associated with HR workload and staff management, adopting online/virtual management systems, prioritizing diversity and inclusion, and enhancing employee workplace culture.

Department Supervision and Development: Supervises the department's two employees, develops department goals that align with RCB strategic objectives, coaches, trains and supports direct reports, including performance evaluation and feedback.

Faculty Recruiting: Updates Faculty Recruitment Guidelines for the College annually in accordance with policies and procedures issued by the Office of Faculty Affairs and best practices, and oversees HR compliance and procedures for all faculty recruitment and faculty hiring, ensuring ongoing alignment with best practices.

Faculty and GRA Hiring: Handles management of central database for faculty HR-relevant changes and serves as an approver for these changes in relation to RCB faculty hires. Also ensures the accuracy of faculty credentials for data for various purposes (such as accreditations) and assists in processing faculty hires in relation to immigration and Homeland Security requirements.

Faculty Promotion, Tenure, and Reviews: Responsible for oversight and management of key parts of Promotion and Tenure (P&T) internal HR processes for the College of Business, including cumulative and annual reviews, renewals of chaired positions, ensuring updated and accurate records and execution by RCB's HR office.

Faculty Contracts and Renewals: Manages to ensure accuracy and communication of faculty contracts and renewals of faculty in compliance with university policy.

Staff Classification and Compensation: Assists RCB hiring managers with creating new and reclassifying existing positions with GSU's Classification and Compensation department.

Staff Hiring and Employment: Collaborates and coordinates with university and college managers to prepare, post, and create recruitment for openings for vacant staff positions and ensures compliance with relevant regulations and policies. This includes facilitating the completion of the staff hire process, transition, and onboarding.

Staff Development, Training, and Performance Evaluation: Leads the HR effort to communicate HR policy and process information and monitors publication of policy, collaborates with RCB leadership to offer training and development for RCB staff members. Collaborates with the Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration on organization and communication with supervisors about the annual performance evaluation process.

Employee Relations: Serves as a contact for all Robinson employees and supervisors for employee improvement and discipline, counseling with employees and supervisors as needed to facilitate productive resolution and to ensure policies are followed in accordance with university and legal perspectives.

USG Retirement Options



  • Optional Retirement Plan -- ORP is a 401(a) Defined Contribution Plan. Employees contribute 6%, and USG contributes 9.24% to the plan. Employees are immediately vested.
  • Teacher Retirement System -- TRS is a Defined Benefit Plan, a traditional public pension plan. Employees contribute 6%, and USG contributes 19.81% to the plan. Your retirement benefit is calculated by factoring in years of service, final salary, and a 2% multiplier. Employees are vested after 10 years.

Qualifications :

Minimum Hiring Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of supervisory/management experience in Human Resources or a combination of education and related experience.


Preferred Hiring Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree Field: Business.
  • Knowledge of GSU HR and faculty procedures, practices, and policies.
  • Knowledge of the function and goals of the College.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Excellent change management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work and perform well under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality.
  • Experience with BOR/USG policy is a plus.
  • Experience in a university setting is preferred.
