Position Description
Primary Purpose and Essential Functions |
Reporting to the Program Director, Dental Hygiene, teaches dental hygiene students in both the first and second years of study and is responsible for delivering quality educational experience for the students, ensures the curriculum is followed as directed by course directors, and ensures that all students are treated in a fair and equitable manner.

- Teaching responsibilities include:
- Instructor for dental radiology lab
- Simulation lab instructor for pre-clinical dental hygiene
- Clinical instructor for both the first- and second-year dental hygiene students
- Clinical instructor for pain management course
- Supervises students during clinical/laboratory/class experiences
- Develop course material and the use of technology for instructional purposes.
- Provide chair-side clinical instruction and feedback for students in the dental hygiene clinic.
- Supervise and engage with the students on-site during remotely delivered didactic courses.
- Participate in departmental and institutional committees as assigned.
- Assist in curriculum review and accreditation documentation.
- Attend faculty meetings and workshops; participate in dental community and program events.
- Participate in professional and scholarly pursuits.
- Proctor examinations as scheduled.
- Assist in the development of future remote educational sites and faculty training as directed by the Program Director, Dental Hygiene.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director, Dental Hygiene.

Minimum Qualifications |
Knowledge of:
- Dental hygiene clinical skills, clinic operation and teaching methodology
- Knowledge of working with electronic health record systems, HIPAA and quality assurance
Experience:
- Minimum of two years clinical dental hygiene experience
Education/Licenses:
- Bachelor's degree in dental hygiene or related field
- Current license to practice dental hygiene or dentistry
- Current X-ray license
- Current BLS certification
- Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene or DDS program
Working Conditions:
- Position is eight hours per day, four days per week
- Some weekend days for special school events may be required
- Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens may be reasonably anticipated. Personal protective equipment will be provided to reduce or eliminate exposure to routine or limited infectious agents.

- Commitment to the success of the students and the school
Experience:
- Teaching experience strongly preferred
- Proficiency in electronic patient health record desirable
- Basic knowledge of California Dental Practice Act
Other:
- Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures
- Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting
- Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work

Physical Requirements |

Must be able to perform dental hygiene responsibilities to include:
- Have normal tactile feeling (sensitivity to heat, cold, pain, pressure, etc.)
- Have fine motor control with corresponding hand-eye coordination; hand functions should include rotation, squeezing, and repetitive movements
- Occasional twisting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and lifting
- Ability to assist patients in transferring themselves to and from a dental chair as needed

Hiring Range |
$94,000 to $109,400 annually. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. |
