About the Photo Studio Set Building Team

The Williams Sonoma Set Shop Team has a variety of skills and talent to be able support the vast assortment of styles and needs of each brand.

Overview of the Set Crew role

The Scenic Overhire is a casual temporary role that supports the WSI photo studios set fabrication team. They will be called in to work daily - weekly assignments as needed. This is an hourly position and must be able to work overtime, evenings, and occasionally weekends. Scenic overhire supports all aspects of the set building team to meet daily to weekly deadlines for photo shoots. Tasks include but not limited to: striking and installation of sets, set construction, painting, finish work, trouble-shooting, and scenic art.

Responsibilities



  • Primary responsibilities are to strike and install support the set building teams to meet deadlines and daily set changes.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail and enthusiasm in set fabrication and working in the studios.
  • Facilitate the construction of scenic elements out of wood, tile, metal, and other materials
  • Assist with the construction of scenic elements out of wood, tile, metal, and other materials
  • Assist scenic painter with prepping scenery
  • Proactively work with set shop staff to investigate challenges and collaboratively troubleshoot solutions
  • Working knowledge of scenic shop safety, and best practices, regarding:
  • Working in teams
  • Materials, hardware, supplies
  • Interest in expanding knowledge in carpentry, rigging, painting, tile work, and/or metalwork
  • Maintain a safe and tidy work area within a fast-paced studio environment including photo studios, set shop, paint shop, and storage areas,
  • Maintain an efficient workflow by prioritizing set assembly and utilizing available resources across teams.
  • Operate a computer and communicate via telephone
  • Transport materials and equipment; lift, move, and carry objects up to 50 pounds
  • Highly skilled carpenters with the ability to easily change tasks and work solo and with different team members are strongly encouraged to apply. Operate a computer and communicate via telephone



Criteria



  • Ability to remain flexible and adapt to changing tasks, and priorities in multiple studios
  • A minimum of one year experience in carpentry, fabrication, photo studio, or related experience
  • Knowledge in architecture/design/art/fabrication training is a plus
  • Ability to read and interpret building diagrams and plans, or desire to learn
  • Troubleshoot, problem-solve, and escalate as needed to efficiently maintain daily tasks and priorities.
  • Proficient in the safe operation and maintenance of fabrications and paint shop, or desire to learn
  • Possess a sense of urgency focused on details, accuracy, and efficiency
  • Excellent communication skills coupled with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to move and/or lift up to 50 lbs; heavier structures with team assist
  • Thrives working both independently and within a collaborative group setting
  • Excellent communications skills regarding reading, written and verbal language (English) to effectively work with team members and cross-functioning teams
  • Weekly evening availability and occasional weekend availability
