Job Summary:

This Custodian position is a team member of the Wisconsin Union -Facilities Custodian Team. Duties include routine maintenance and cleaning, trash removal and snow removal. Work is performed under the guidance of a Custodial Services Supervisor.

Our organization, the Wisconsin Union, is the social heart of UW-Madison, providing events, facilities, and activities for students, staff, faculty, thousands of Wisconsin Union members, and visitors.


Responsibilities:
Cleans facilities, removes waste and recycling, and monitors building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours. Ensures cleanliness, orderliness, and safety in assigned areas.

  • 80% Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables
  • 5% Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities
  • 5% Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed
  • 5% Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs
  • 5% Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice

Qualifications:

- 3 months of previous cleaning, custodial, hospitality, or related experience within an academic, commercial or residential environment preferred.
- 6 months of previous continuous employment preferred.


Work Schedule:

10pm-6:30am with days of the week schedule rotating every 7 weeks.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $17.00 HOURLY
Depending on Qualifications
-Plus an additional $2.50 per hour for night hours worked (6pm-6am).
-Plus an additional $0.80 per hour for weekend hours worked.
-Plus Time and a half per hour for hours worked on designated legal holidays.

Ability to lift 50 pounds to shoulder height occasionally needed

The Wisconsin Union operates from several buildings on the UW-Madison campus including Memorial Union, Union South, Fluno Center, Pyle Center, University Club, Red Gym, and the Student Activity Center. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by over thirty food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $60 million dollars.

Student Affairs is led by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Our staff is dedicated to serving students and to helping them succeed in and out of the classroom in areas including health and well-being, identity and inclusion, leadership and engagement, and student advocacy.
