The Gordon-Browne Proton Therapy Center (GBPTC) is a cutting-edge machine utilizing an ultra compact proton therapy unit installed within an existing high-rise building. The continued success of the department requires a motivated engineer capable of working in a patient care critical environment. The Accelerator Ops Lead Engineer oversees the GBPTC Linear Accelerator Engineers participating in operations and maintenance and provides expert troubleshooting, maintenance, and development of the system. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Oversee operation of the proton therapy machine * Create the shift schedule for operational coverage * Lead efforts to return the machine to an operating state in events of downtime * Establish and maintain a preventive maintenance program to assure maximum uptime of equipment * Oversight of spare parts inventory and acquisition * Create written procedures * Run monthly budget reports to track engineering spending * Create and update training materials and ensures staff have completed appropriate training * Communicate any system operational concerns in a timely way to appropriate staff and follows up with resolution * Provide annual equipment statistical information for uptime and percentage of PM's completed on time * Review equipment health trends * May need to participate in engineering coverage for machine operation * Adhere to processes defined by the quality management system * Help to improve documentation * May be involved in upgrades and other projects related to clinical innovation and research within the Department of Radiation Oncology SKILLS & COMPETENCIES * Thorough knowledge of accelerator operations and technology * A highly skilled individual who demonstrates ingenuity in design, construction, operation and maintenance of highly technical apparatus * A detailed knowledge of instruments and test equipment * Knowledge of regulatory requirements for medical devices * High levels of communication and interdisciplinary teamwork SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
WORKING CONDITIONS Most work conducted in an office environment in normal business hours; some work in machine shops or laboratory/workshop areas will be included. Will occasionally have patient contact. Will occasionally be required to work in a radiation environment which is protected and monitored according to federal and state regulations. Will be required to handle or manage the handling of some radioactive materials. Night and weekend work sometimes required. Short notice schedule changes may also be required. Must be able to climb ladders as necessary and to carry equipment up to 35 pounds. Qualifications
EDUCATION Bachelor's Degree Sufficient equivalent experience or applicable clinical engineering experience may be accepted in lieu of educational requirement. EXPERIENCE * Must have 4+ years of maintaining, developing and operating the ProTom Radiance 330 proton therapy system or similar system. * Experience working with high power systems * Project management experience * Supervisory experience EEO Statement Massachusetts General Hospital is an Affirmative Action Employer.
