The Opportunity: Patient Care Associate - Ellison 14 Burn & Plastic Surgical Unit

Why This Role Is Important?

Ellison 14 is a twenty-one bed adult patient care area. Fourteen of the twenty one beds are populated by general care burn, and plastic and reconstructive surgery patients. This patient population has a wide variety of diagnoses and undergoes many types of surgical and medical interventions, including reconstructive and cosmetic procedures (e.g., free tissue transfers, replantation/revascularization, composite vascularized allografts, leech therapy).
Seven of these beds are dedicated to care of the critically ill burn patient. As a Regional Burn Center verified by the American Burn Association in conjunction with the American College of Surgeons, the staff of the Sumner Redstone Burn Center provides comprehensive, collaborative care. Within its physical confines, care is provided across the continuum: acute phase through out-patient follow-up. . There are four Bacteria Controlled Nursing Units (BCNU), designed primarily for patients with significant risk of infection from body surface area injury (i.e., thermal, chemical or electrical burns and Toxic

Under the direction of a registered nurse (RN), the Patient Care Associate (PCA) assists the multi-disciplinary health care team in clinical support functions to promote a safe, compassionate patient care environment. PCA assists patients with daily living needs, monitoring & reading vital signs, drawing blood, and obtaining EKGs. Responds to patient requests in a timely manner, safeguarding patient confidentiality, monitoring patient safety, and always communicating in a respectful manner.

Qualifications
Required: Must have recent experience, and/or training, in clinical patient care.

Preferred: Licensed, certified or enrolled student in a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Mental Health Technician, or EMT accredited program, at the time of hire, OR

Candidate enrolled in a Nursing, Pre-Med, PA undergraduate program, with at least one semester of patient care rotations completed, at time of hire.
