Additional Job Description: POSITION SUMMARY: Work in conjunction with the respective Medical Directors and Interdisciplinary Team to provide oversite for the development and day to day operations of the Stroke Program. Supports the hospital through certification, accreditation, and disease specific designation, processes related to the Stroke Program. Provides oversite to the care of patients in the Stroke and Program. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing 2. NIH Stroke Scale Certification required within 6 months of hire. 3. Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of West Virginia. 4. Related national certification (AANC, MSNCB, or ABNN) required within 6 months of hire. EXPERIENCE: 1. 3 years of experience in a healthcare related field PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Master's Degree in Nursing 2. NIH Stroke Scale Certification. CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Provides oversite for the development and day to day operations of the Stroke Program, ensuring compliance with appropriate governing and certifying agencies. 2. Demonstrates excellence in practice through full role functions, including practitioner, educator, consultant, and leader. 3. Works in conjunction with the medical director of the Stroke Program and medical staff to develop protocols, policies, order sets, educational materials, and define the Evidence Based best care of the Stroke patient. 4. Serves as the Chairperson for governing committees and councils associated with the Stroke programs. 5. Conducts rounds and/or audits on all inpatient stroke patients. 6. Provides oversight and support for the stroke patients and staff for the discharge process and follow up. 7. Facilitates quality Improvement processes within the Stroke Program. 8. Serves as a liaison for the hospital, pre-hospital providers, and community agencies. 9. In conjunction with the Quality Department, coordinates all on site certification visits and follows all required certification regulations set by the respective certifying organizations. 10. Collaborates closely with the identified physician champions for program and manages all staff development as needed and related to the Stroke Program development. 11. Reviews stroke data from Quality and provides feedback on areas of improvement. 12. Coordinates community stroke education through lectures and presentations. 13. Maintain a minimum of 8 CEs related to stroke as outline by the Stroke Program. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and coordinate programs with a variety of health care personnel, and outside individual organizations. 5. Understanding of the State and national guidelines related to Stroke Certification and Chest Pain Center designation.
