Billing Analyst
Steptoe LLP is seeking a Billing Analyst to join its Accounting & Finance Department. The Billing Analyst is responsible for assisting in the billing and ebilling process. The position is responsible for compiling data, preparing bills for billing purposes and assisting in collection of outstanding ebilled accounts receivable. The Billing Analyst assists attorneys, business professionals and clients with billing and ebilled accounts receivable inquiries and assists with other special requests regarding billing to Firm clients in a timely and efficient manner. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This position may report to any of our U.S. offices.
Essential Functions
  • Recognize that service to clients (both internal and external) is the Firm's number one priority.
  • Responsible for proforma to final bill process - ensure accurate proformas are received and returned in a timely manner.
  • Work with Steptoe software solutions to create and submit LEDES docs to clients in correct format.
  • Ensure prompt follow-up regarding rejected or pending ebills.
  • Provide both clients and attorneys with information including, reasons for delay in billing, status of setup and submission, appeal requests.
  • Provide attorneys with information including: preparation of bill/payment histories; locating and emailing bill copies; providing explanation or backup copies for expense charges.
  • Resolve basic discrepancies as needed.
  • Create and revise basic spreadsheet reports.
  • Create and upload client accruals as needed.
  • Work with Pricing to update rates for ebilled clients.
  • Assist with billing email group.
  • Identify issues attributing to billing slowness and account delinquency and alert director and/or lead when escalation is necessary.
  • Resolve client-billing problems applying good customer service in a timely manner.
  • Assist with other special billing requests.
  • Work with Billing Analyst Lead to ensure data is provided as needed for successful ebilling submission.
Non-Essential Functions

Minimum Qualifications
  • College degree or commensurate experience with high school diploma.
  • Law firm or professional services background preferred.
  • Two or more years specializing in billing is preferred.
Success Factors
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to maintain effective relationships with attorneys and business professionals via telephone, email or in person to provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
  • Must have attention to detail with an eye for accuracy.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of Elite 3E a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook.

  • Hybrid work arrangements are available for this position.
The anticipated base salary for this position is $70000 - $85,000. The actual base salary offered will be dependent upon the applicant's experience and qualifications, as well as other job-related factors, including but not limited to, relevant skills, education, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, geographic location.
