Scope of Position Under the guidance of the Director, Accreditation Director, Hospital Division Administration, the individual in this position facilitates the development and execution of operational strategies to support patient safety, in compliance with local, state, and federal government and regulatory agency requirements for James Cancer Hospital and ambulatory locations. This position serves as a professional resource throughout the James locations to translate and interpret Joint Commission standards, Ohio Department of Health, Center for Medicare regulations and other accrediting agencies applicable to the hospital and ambulatory locations. Directs and supports clinical and nonclinical members of staff within the facility towards implementation of new processes to meet new requirements, and action plans and process improvements for noncompliance to achieve positive survey/audit reviews. This position will effectively monitor compliance to standards and implemented processes to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies standards for environmental safety to patients, visitors and staff. Serves as a member of the James Accreditation team and chair of the James Environment of Care Committee. Position SummaryThe Environment of Care Specialist develops and implements programs and policies to ensure a safe and compliant environment for patients, visitors and staff. Supports the accreditation programs through compliance with Joint Commission (TJC), Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The individual in this role will serve as an Environment of Care and safety subject matter expert and provides training to faculty and staff throughout the James Cancer Hospital, including all ambulatory sites. This position will monitor patient locations to ensure building standards we incorporated per regulatory and state guidelines. Must be a systems thinker with strong interpersonal and communication skills that is able to be self-directed. CQI or other process improvement training and leadership experience is essential to the position. Must have strong data management skills with the ability to collect, analyze, interpret, report data and provide information to hospital leadership. This position completes environmental rounding and organizational assessments to determine safety risks for faculty, staff, and learners, and in collaboration with facilities, environmental services, epidemiology, nursing, and other departments. The Environment of Care Specialist captures and reports on safety events and uses data to implements evidence-based practices and risk mitigation strategies using process improvement principles, tools and techniques to enhance a culture of safety. This position also plays a key role in supporting emergency preparedness activities across all ambulatory and inpatient sites of the James Cancer Hospital. Minimum QualificationsFor Hire: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Advanced degree in relevant field may be desirable. 4 years of relevant experience required. Ongoing: This person must demonstrate competency to meet essential job functions and the ability to adapt to the rapid changes that occur in the health care setting. Maintains and seeks new knowledge related to regulatory oversight, quality improvement, cost reduction, and current policies, procedures, and protocols. The employee must meet mandatory educational and health requirements.
