Sayres is seeking a Senior Waterfront Production Engineer in San Diego, CA. The role involves:

The Senior Waterfront Production Engineer will support the Navy's Auxiliary (PMS 325) Shipbuilding program and be responsible for the following:



  • Serve as Sayres waterfront engineering lead in support of the PMS 325 USNS Fleet Oiler (T-AO) shipbuilding program.
  • Act as liaison between Sayres engineering and waterfront team, PMS 325, and the Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP) for all production engineering matters.
  • Apply experience in various areas of Marine Engineering: Hull, Mechanical, Electrical, C4I, Structural, Propulsion, Auxiliary Machinery, Naval Architecture, Deck Equipment, Aviation Support.
  • Provide investigation of and resolution for engineering issues while referencing ship specifications, shipyard contract, drawings, models, and other technical documentation. Perform shipchecks as required.
  • Assist in the development of Work Packages, Statements of Work, and specifications to ensure adherence to requirements.


  • Develop weekly reports (SITREPs, Metrics) on production engineering issues, corrective actions, physical progress, shipyard performance, etc.
  • Identify risks and provide analysis of emergent issues to include recommendations for risk mitigation and/or resolution. Identify lessons learned for incorporation in future ships.


Qualifications & Clearance Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills, and Clearance:



  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum ten (10) years' relevant experience, or High School Diploma and equivalent experience in lieu of degree
  • Experience with management of ship construction and marine engineering technical issues.
  • Knowledge of Navy/MSC shipbuilding requirements and processes.
  • Ability to work in a shipyard environment, to likely include daily walkthroughs onboard auxiliary ships with steep ladders and several decks.
  • Proven ability to solve complex engineering design problems
  • Must possess strong organizational and time management skills; the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously; exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with an emphasis on providing good customer service; highly self-motivated and resourceful with strong problem-solving skills; and exceptional attention to detail and an ability to work with minimal supervision from the customer.
  • MS Office suite skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity to support progressing and presentations


  • Active Secret security clearance verifiable in DISS or the ability to obtain one.


Preferred:



  • At least 10 years of direct experience working in or supporting NAVSEA, Military Sealift Command, construction shipyards (NASSCO), and/or operating/maintaining a commercial or military vessel.
  • 3 Years Sole Source Vendor (SSV) Management experience
  • Prior military, maritime, or Marine Engineer background.
  • Familiarity with ABS and Steel Vessel Rules


Salary:

The salary for this position is likely $115,000 - $140,000. Salary ranges are not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
