PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Learning & Development Specialist is responsible for managing comprehensive training and development programs that enhance the skills, knowledge, and performance of all resort employees. This role ensures that training and development initiatives align with the resort's strategic goals and support a culture of exceptional service, genuine care and attention to detail.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Model the culture: As a L&D Specialist, your primary role is to learn and live the culture. Embody the Deer Valley Difference through exceptional service, genuine care, and attention to detail. Your example is one of the best ways to teach and influence others.
  • Training Program Development: Coordinate with company leadership to create a learning strategy that supports the organizational objectives - a structured learning ecosystem. With an aligned direction on company objectives, develop and implement specific programs to support staff development and growth. As needed, produce training materials, manuals or documentation. Focus on frontline leaders and management skills that have the most impact on the success of the organization.

    This may include workshops, experiential learning, and blended learnings with our LMS (learning management system).

    Partner with resort departments to curate training content and create consistency among the different training methods.

    Support subject matter experts in their facilitations (e.g. compliance training, leadership development, etc.)
  • Orientation: Lead the orientation efforts (e.g. seasonal facilitations) that integrate new employees and set standards and expectations.
  • Performance Management Support: Coordinate with corporate L&D teams to prepare, message, and support the year-round performance evaluation cycle. Conduct the seasonal performance evaluation process.
  • Individual Development Plans: Partner with department managers to identify skill gaps and help build individual development plans that will support staff member growth.
  • Organizational Feedback: Assist in the design and implementation of employee surveys. Own the analysis, tracking and subsequent action planning to help teams improve our working environment.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Design evaluation metrics to gather data from surveys, performance, and other people metrics to identify trends and assess the effectiveness of development efforts.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Education, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in learning and development, training coordination, or human resources, preferably in the hospitality or ski industry.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and training methodologies.
  • Proven ability to create engaging training content and deliver presentations effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage and inspire employees at all levels. The ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with learning management systems (LMS) and e-learning tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of departments and adjust to dynamic, seasonal business needs.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of ski resort operations is desirable, but not necessary.
  • Passion for lifting and building up others.
