What You Will Do:

The Graduate Residency Advisor guides students in the National College of Education residency and alternate pathway programs. This person will advise on academic programs, curriculum, college and university academic policies and procedures. The coordinator works directly with graduate students in a variety of disciplines to foster their academic success. The advisor will be the student's single point of contact on all matters from enrollment to graduation and will work closely with the Director of Residency and Alternative Pathway Programs as well as the Academic Advising Department to track student progress. The advisor will assist students individually and in groups via the phone, appointments, or off-site meetings. The Graduate Residency Advisor is under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Academic Advising and is a member of the Provost division, working closely with faculty and with staff from other student service units as Student Finance, Admissions and Registrar, serving as the student's primary point of contact for questions and assistance.



Essential Responsibilities

    Provide single point of contact advising service to an assigned group of students from admission through graduation to retain students.
  • Effectively communicate the curriculum and graduation requirements for program, college and university academic policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with academic program faculty and participate in department meetings as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student records.
  • Provide student with general information on the university that students need to be successful.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • 2-3 years of experience in academic advising or related fields.
  • Team Orientation: Is an effective team player who adds complementary skills and contributes valuable ideas, opinions and feedback. Communicates in an open and candid manner and can be counted upon to fulfill any commitments made to others on the team.
  • Problem Solving: Takes a proactive approach to anticipating and preventing problems. When problems occur, defines those problems, investigates obstacles, gathers relevant information, decides whether solving the problem should be a group decision, generates and analyzes alternate solutions and arrives at a workable solution.
  • Customer Focus: Personally demonstrates that external (or internal) customers are a high priority. Identifies customer needs and expectations and responds to them in a timely and effective manner. Anticipates and prevents delays or other things that can adversely affect the customer. Keeps customers informed about the status of pending actions and inquires about customer satisfaction with products or services.
