Job Summary

The Prep Cook ensures preparation of excellent food and exceptional customer service within the dining facility, monitors sanitation practices to ensure employees follow standards and regulations, and offers support and direction to student and temporary employees.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare food using techniques such as cooking, roasting, baking, and skillet meal preparation
  • Participate in daily food testing
  • Complete preparation assignments for the next day's menu
  • Serve clients during daily operations, special events, and assist in other departments or locations as needed
  • Be visible to customers during service to address questions, concerns, or requests
  • Clean equipment and perform sanitation duties daily and during operational downtimes
  • Ensure compliance with menus, recipes, production schedules, and quality standards
  • Monitor staff and food levels during busy periods to maintain standards, minimize food waste, and ensure the proper amount of prepped food is available to customers


Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Required Experience
  • One (1) year of work-related experience


Proposed Salary

$15.84 - $18.64

This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.

ABILITIES

  • Ability to support various constituencies served by the University
  • Proven proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office, Google, and/or applications as required for specific position
  • Work with limited supervision
  • Prepare food according to health and safety requirements

KNOWLEDGE
  • Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet institutional goals and support University's mission for student success
  • Knowledge of safe food handling techniques and tools
  • Knowledge of basic cooking techniques, such as sauteing, broiling, frying, grilling, seasoning methods, and portion control
  • Understanding of food service equipment use

SKILLS
  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational, and human relations skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to a customer service-centered work ethic
