Overview

Full-Time: Main Campus, Mon-Fri: Day Shift

We are seeking a Genetic Technologist within the Institute for Genomic Medicine's Clinical Microarray Laboratory. The ideal candidate will handle patient samples, perform complex laboratory testing, interpret assay results, and draft patient reports. Additional responsibilities include assisting with operational improvement through method updates and assay validation efforts, performing required lab-associated tasks (i.e. equipment maintenance), and helping to ensure the lab space is always

Responsibilities

What Will You Be Doing?

    Perform laboratory procedures potentially including, but not limited to:
    • Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
    • Nucleic acid quantitation and QC, including gel electrophoresis, spectrophotometry, and operation of Agilent bioanalyzer/tapestation
    • Cancer and constitutional chromosomal microarray
    • Methylation array testing
    • Operating automated liquid handling systems
    • Review, analysis, and interpretation of data
    • Reviewing/revising worksheets and operating procedures as needed
  • Providing courteous and informative internal and external customer service
  • Training students and fellows who rotate through IGM
  • Observing others for competency assessment (tech II or higher)
  • Maintaining laboratory instrumentation
  • Technical and computer work required including utilizing research databases, LIMS, and other related software
  • Hours of this position will be Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, with potential for rotating Saturday coverage


Qualifications

What Are We Looking For?

To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess these minimum qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science; or a chemical, physical or biological science from an accredited institution.
    • Five years of previous molecular laboratory experience required for tech II role
  • Prefer candidate to be American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certified.
    • If not certified, must obtain certification within three years of hire date (two years if hired as a tech II based on experience)

Minimum Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for more than 1 hour at a time, sit for more than 1 hour at a time. Good visual and auditory acuity. Full use of hands and arms. Ability to speak clearly. Ability to lift 30 pounds occasionally. Must complete color blind testing.
