Over Night Security Officer

Summary/Primary Purpose: Maintain a safe and secure environment for all employees, residents, and visitors to the complex, as required by security policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Performs property security rounds and building opening/closing procedures per shift.
  • Monitors and sign in-out all visitors and clients to complex. Escort funds/visitors and staff between complexes and to vehicles when requested.
  • Responsible to respond immediately and appropriately to all emergencies, including: Fire, Medical, Bio Hazard, bomb threats, inclement weather and other building emergency situations.
  • Must be able to quickly assess any given situation and take appropriate actions to protect employees, clients, and visitors.
  • Responds to all code/alarm activations and notifications to effectively manage the situation through to its successful completion.
  • Participates in performing tours of facilities, examining access control points for appropriate security measures, assesses and reports environmental deficiencies (e.g., lights out, fire doors broken, excessive hallway clutter, missing or undercharged fire extinguishers, etc.), and observes the operational environment for any safety and/or security concerns.
  • Responsible for surveillance of property through use of computer-linked security and access control systems and the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems.
  • Required to attend bi-monthly security meetings and as well as attending training required to maintain job related certifications.
  • Responsible for maintaining provided uniforms and always presenting in a professional and clean manner.
  • Driving is an essential function of the position.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Education and/or Experience: High school or equivalent diploma, and 6 months or more experience in a related field.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required for this position.



  • Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Basic computer skill to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
  • Good English communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.


Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Ability to be trained and attain within the first 6 months: First Aid, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. Ability to climb five flights of stairs to ensure evacuation/safety of residents. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The environment is where the clients reside and/or visit, and might be loud or busy at times. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and or humid conditions and varying temperatures.
