The Erickson Alumni Center at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an Event Staff position. About the Opportunity This position will be reporting to the Manager and the Evening Shift executes with event set up, break down and with the maintenance of the interior and exterior appearance of the Erickson Alumni Center and Alumni Center grounds. The position has frequent public contact with Alumni Center clientele. We strongly believe in work-life balance and keeping time for things we love outside our work. What You'll Do
- Cleaning and maintenance of the interior and surrounding exterior appearance of the Alumni Center.
- With direction from the Manager, implements and oversees the daily tasks of Alumni Center.
- Follows procedures and completes work assignments during responsible shift and ensures work is completed in a timely manner and to ensure proper quality and quantity.
- Adjusts daily task assignments as needed to meet changes in facility and customer priorities and needs.
- Monitors multiple simultaneous events in the Alumni Center.
- Inspects completed work assignments to ensure quality control.
- Provides continual inspection of assigned areas to ensure assigned work is completed on schedule.
- Recommends to the supervisor major repair needs and assists supervisor in updating deferred maintenance.
- Provides daily reports on actual progress versus projected progress to the Manager.
- Makes recommendations for corrective action to the Manager, as needed based on work performance.
- Makes recommendations to the Manager related to shift assignments, materials availability, and equipment in order to maintain schedule.
- Locks and unlock doors to accommodate building schedule.
- Implements energy conservation best practices at the Alumni Center.
- Demonstrates work methods and operation of equipment to employees as required for safe and efficient performance of their duties.
- Ensures supplies and materials are adequately stocked throughout the buildings by inventorying supply areas and completing and submitting requests to the Manager for additional supplies.
- Notifies the Manager of furniture, equipment, and facilities needing repair or replacement and of potential safety/fire violations.
- Receives work orders. Interfaces with all supervisors, managers, and requesting party to finalize needs and scope.
- Communicates work schedules and goals to employees and customer, creating efficiency and a timely completion of assigned tasks.
- Follows best risk management practices recommended by BRIM (Board of Risk and Insurance Management) as directed by the Assistant Director - Facilities and Manager.
- Attends various training classes, including fire and active shooter drills, AED, first-aid, seminars and other meetings to learn techniques and procedures and to remain current in all safety requirements.
Pay Grade: 11 Hours: 3pm-11pm
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience involving:
- Experience with proper commercial and/or residential cleaning and experience in assisting with general trades maintenance.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Experience with audiovisual and sound reinforcement equipment is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of custodial methods, procedures, and safety principles.
- Knowledge of basic grounds keeping and labor activities.
- Ability to operate basic labor supporting equipment, basic grounds keeping equipment, and demonstrated ability to operate commercial custodial equipment.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary to interact with supervisors and colleagues while providing leadership and coordination of assignments.
- Ability to read and write in English and perform simple mathematical calculations.
- Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions and communicate instructions to others. Ability to provide training to others and work assignments and maintaining necessary records.
- Physical capability to perform duties of the position including long periods of standing and walking, bending, stooping, and climbing, and lifting of heavy items weighing approximately 50-75 pounds.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring frequent and prolonged exposure to extreme variations in temperatures including outdoor weather conditions and exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle including knowledge of safe driving procedures and West Virginia traffic and safety regulations.
- Ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
- Must be able to interpret diagrams or blueprints for event.
- Must have knowledge to be able to set-up staging and dance floors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with event set-ups including interpreting diagrams and setting up seating, staging, dance floors, etc.
- Experience in assisting with plumbing, carpentry or other craft trades.
- Experience with audiovisual and sound reinforcement equipment.
