Position Summary

DRS Network & Imaging Systems in Cypress, CA is part of the Electro-Optical and Infrared Systems Group of Leonardo DRS and has over 30 years of experience in designing and developing electro-optical/infrared systems for surveillance and targeting applications. We are seeking a Staff Scientist to join the company in the development of strategic space and weather systems.

Basic Qualifications and Required Duties
  • Master's degree in physical science or engineering discipline; PhD preferred
  • A minimum of 20 years of experience
  • Extensive knowledge and significant experience in multiple engineering disciplines
  • Knowledge of EO/IR technology is required. Ability to perform analysis of EO/IR systems is desired.
  • Must be a team player with good communications skills
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan, conduct and direct research and development projects where the complexity of the technical problems requires advanced knowledge and scientific specialization
  • Conduct research to make fundamental improvements to product performance or to the invention of new product concepts
  • Design, conduct, and analyze experiments to probe fundamental limits within area of expertise
  • Support other departments with failure analysis for improvement of yield and reduction of cost
  • Write proposals and reports and present technical papers to win new business and enhance the technical creditability of the Company
  • Disseminate knowledge via patents, technical papers, technical memorandum and staff development
  • Represent the company at industry and government briefings
  • Supervise personnel in carrying out development and/or manufacturing processes
  • Provide technical expertise and assistance to other engineers and support personnel
  • Interact with technical management, other professionals, technicians and support personnel to coordinate, recommend and confer regarding technical activities and progress
  • Mentor and coach the work of others as assigned
  • Actively participate in organizational strategy and future technology direction
  • Widely recognized within both DRS and the scientific community as expert in the field of specialization as well as other related scientific disciplines
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings
  • Other duties as assigned
Working Conditions

Normal for an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work and local travel.

U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.

The pay scale for this position is $159,298/year - $247,310/year. The pay scale information is a general guideline only. Several factors can influence the pay scale for a position including but not limited to, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, collective bargaining agreements, geographic location, business considerations, scope and responsibilities of the position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal equity. Other factors include the candidate's qualifications such as relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education/training, and certifications.
