Video Productions Specialist

Under the direction of the Communications Manager, the Video Production Specialist will use photography, videography and other multimedia avenues to showcase and increase awareness of District goals, initiatives, accomplishments, special events, and other newsworthy items - including, but not limited to board meetings, special programs, classroom sessions, student achievement, media events and athletic events. This position will work alongside the Video Production Assistant and with staff, parent volunteers, and the community to organize, manage and produce programming for City Schools TV, channel 77. This position is responsible for organizing, leading, and ensuring the production of regular content by the Student Media Video Team.


Essential Functions



  • Conceives, develops, and produces innovative and compelling video, broadcast, and other multimedia content that represents school-based activities and programs, and administrative outcomes.
  • Provides day-to-day management of City Schools TV, Channel 77 cable station software and programming.

    • Ensures regular airing of content
    • Manages video volunteers and production
    • Manages media archives and maintain an up to date archival system map
    • Manages City Schools TV content published to district website and social media channels

  • Manages editing office equipment and site equipment needs (cameras, tripods, memory cards).

    • Maintains City Schools TV information on Dropbox and Google Drive, content and sharing

  • Creates professional videos that will inspire and engage audiences to increase district awareness and promote the work of the district.
  • Performs all aspects of video production, including videotaping, editing, lighting, sound, field and studio production, writing, storyboarding, scheduling, scouting and reserving locales for shooting, pre and post production, etc.
  • Meets with various departments to discuss and determine production needs and scope of projects and serve as liaison between departments and production staff.
  • Leads the discovery process and collaborate closely with staff to determine key messages and outline the most effective way to communicate them across multiple platforms.
  • Develops and research content and write scripts for diverse target audiences.
  • Directs and coaches district leadership team members, community partners, students, staff, and amateur on-air talent to achieve quality finished recordings and productions.
  • Trains and educates others on the video production process with professionalism, patience and excellent customer service.
  • Manages timelines and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Provides opportunities for students to learn about broadcast media production and other communications functions.
  • Working with the Communications Team, participates in identifying school-based activities and programs for coverage, taking responsibility for creating resulting content in formats including but not limited to PSA, short video, and full-length video for broadcast.
  • Working with the Communications Team and relevant district offices, develops programming opportunities to highlight students voice around areas of student interest and engagement.
  • Adherence to copyright and fair use laws.
  • Possess the ability and knowledge of A/V and digital media equipment and software troubleshooting problems.
  • Manages all City Schools TV media supply needs.

Desired Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in directly related field. Degree must be from an accredited college or university.
  • Five to seven years related experience and/or training.
  • Strong experience filming as well as in video editing software such as Premiere or Final Cut.
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups or individuals.
  • Ability to work independently and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Perform expertly in all facets of video production and/or web-based projects.
  • Operate studio/field equipment for video production.
  • Operate sound equipment for video production.
  • Operate lighting equipment necessary for quality of video.
  • Operate various video camera formats.
  • Operate various computer formats and software packages necessary for video editing purposes.
  • Ability to provide technical expertise on the most up-to-date equipment and advancements in video production.
  • Ability to organize, develop and produce complex video programming.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to drive individuals and able to carry equipment weighing up to 75 lbs. as necessary for all aspects of department related assignments, productions and functions.
  • Ability to develop and follow through on facility designs.
  • Ability to organize the production process from planning, budgeting, hiring crews, editing to finished product.
  • Work with a flexible schedule, to include evenings, weekends and/or emergencies.
  • Understanding of urban school setting.
  • Must be focused on providing excellent customer service.
