This position is responsible for Product Development of moderately complex products, Design and experiment, and perform technical base investigation in developing products within the Performance Coatings Group- Automotive team. The individual will have opportunities to gain experience in broad Automotive coating technologies, demonstrate leadership, and create companywide impact on new product developments. Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. - Lead and formulate new product development projects.
- Formulation of existing products for improvements.
- Aid in resolving technical challenges associated with scaling-up, maintaining quality, and addressing manufacturing issues related to formulas.
- Test and assess developed products, compile Safety Data Sheet (SDS), Product Data Sheets (PDS), and unsure adherence to regulatory compliance standards.
- Deliver technical support to key stakeholder from sourcing, technical, operation and marketing for a variety of cross-functional activities.
- Proficiency in organizing and interpreting data.
- Capable of mentoring new chemists for their growth and success and, fostering effective collaboration with colleagues.
- Demonstrate the capability to plan, work, and create reports independently.
- Lead projects. Collaborate within R&D team, Analytical, Application, Marketing, and Color teams.
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to the team by helping / assisting other employees.

- Communicate lab results concisely via presentation, email and/or lab report.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS * Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status). * Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field. * 5 years of hands-on lab experience. * 2 years of experience in the paint and coating product development environment. * Proficient in application of Design of Experiment (DOE) and statistical methodologists to formulate coating products. * Organizational skills * Able to adapt and change quickly in response to new situations/demands. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * M.S or PhD degree in Chemistry, Polymers Science, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or another related field. * Experienced and knowledgeable in 2-k Polyurethane, and waterborne coating systems. * Understanding of reactive chemistries including epoxies and urethanes. * In depth understanding of coating formulation and how it relates to coating requirements. * Experience working in the automotive vehicle refinish industry. * Six sigma certifications beneficial (green or black belt preferred). * Experience in Design for Six Sigma (DFSS). Travel Requirements: 10% Upon completion of construction, the individual selected for this role will primarily work at the new Sherwin-Williams Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio. Construction is expected to be complete in Q4 2024. Until then, the role will be based at the Warrensville Technical Center, located at 4440 Warrensville Center Rd Warrensville Heights, OH 44128.
