Job Description:

The PMA Risk Control Department is seeking a self-motivated, solution-oriented risk control professional with a high level of interpersonal and relationship building skills who can assess and evaluate prospective clients, provide the underwriter with the information necessary to write profitable business, and manage and serve as a consultant to an existing book of business. The position is primarily remote based (non-office based) with periodic remote and in-person team meetings and gatherings. Client and prospective account interactions consists of a combination of in-person/on-site and remote interaction as appropriate.

As member of our Risk Control Department, you will have the opportunity to positively impact profitability by applying effective risk control and risk management techniques in the selection, management, and retention of desirable accounts. You will perform assignments, tasks or activities that contribute to the fulfillment of the corporation's and department's overall business objectives.

You will deliver and manage risk control services for clients through the department's advanced consulting strategies and be comfortable designing and managing the delivery of Risk Control services following a defined service plan. You will support the marketing efforts of the company and department through supporting agency and broker management initiatives and making service capability presentations.



  • Develop and maintain effective and positive relationships with clients, agents/brokers, and internal staff.
  • Collaborate with client and agency/broker key stakeholders in the delivery of service, development of goals, and execution of effective service plans designed to positively influence and reduce the total cost of risk.
  • Manage a diverse workload with a focus on large risk management and middle market clients.
  • Serve as primary contact and managing consultant for complex and dynamic clients including multi-state and/or multi-location exposures.
  • Analyze, interpret, and summarize data, summarizing and incorporating findings into internal and external reports and communications.
  • Complete risk assessments to assist in the underwriting process with a focus on Workers' Compensation but may also include other lines such as Commercial Auto, Liability, and Property.
  • Participate in internal project and technical team(s) as appropriate.
  • Serve as coach and mentor to designated department colleagues.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills and meet the technical competency requirements for the department.
  • Participate in corporate sponsored projects including attending outside conferences and events as a speaker and participant, representing the company and exemplifying all the core values.
  • Execute job duties towards achieving desired business goals.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, and apply knowledge of compliance policies and procedures, standards, and laws applicable to job responsibilities in the performance of work.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree and eight years of consulting or related industry experience
  • ARM designation preferred
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, desire to learn and grow that matches the growth and expansion of the PMA franchise
  • Data analysis, interpretation, and utilization of various analytical tools
  • Strong interpersonal skills to be able to support a team of professional RC staff
  • Strong communication skills including demonstrating strong writing and presentation skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Competent with MS Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
