Pharmacist - Allergy

Schedule: Sunday, Monday or Tuesday (once a week) 4pm-8pm

Weekends: Could be none or could be every Sunday

Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for providing medication related services to the allergy/immunotherapy clinic including, but not limited to preparing and distributing allergenic extracts following established standards and practices to ensure proper and safe use.

Job Functions



    1. Works independently and serves as a liaison to clinic staff (physician and nurses) to support the medication use system.
    2. Utilize sterile technique to compound desentizations
    3. Inventory and order supplies of stock antigens and extracts, diluents, vials, venom kits, mailers, labels and other supplies.
    4. Maintain proper care of facilities using proper cleaning, disinfection and monitoring systems.
    5. Maintain awareness of Practice Parameter guidelines, immunotherapy standards, and incorporate into daily work processes and procedures.
    6. Receives and review physician orders for immunotherapy; aids in creating complex allergy testing kits that require serial dilutions (complex math calculations).
    7. Develops patient specific protocols for antigen challenges and testing.
    8. Prepares immunotherapy mixing sheets, calculating appropriate antigen strength and diluent volume.
    9. Prepares venoms for testing in-house and at various locations.
    10. Utilize USP 797 and 795 standards to prepare all products
    11. Test or develop new allergy procedures in partnership Physician.
    12. Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Education/Work Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy
  • Minnesota Pharmacist License
  • Experience compounding medications in a clean room

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities



    • Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions


    • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above


    • Knowledge of basic computer functions and Microsoft Office applications


    • Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills


    • Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations


    • Ability to work carefully, methodically and accurately
    • Knowledge of USP 797 and 795


    • Knowledge of IV admixture, unit doses, and computer operation, Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above


License/Certification


  • Valid Minnesota Pharmacist licensure

Preferred Qualifications


  • Previous allergy experience
  • Previous USP 797
