Maintain a safe and secure environment, provide a high degree of customer service, and help visitors navigate CHOP as a Security Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Perform security duties at a fixed post or while making rounds, checking for fire or safety hazards. Document incidents and report emergencies to supervisor.

  • Screen individuals entering CHOP facilities, check employee ID badges, and confirm that vendors/contractors are authorized to be on the property. Escort unauthorized persons from the hospital campus.

  • Provide security escorts to employees, families, and visitors.

  • Assist with campus parking, screening drivers entering visitor lots and notifying supervisor to call for a tow truck and/or police services as needed.

  • Respond to all routine and emergency calls as directed by supervisor or base operator.

  • Provide support during helicopter landings, fire alarms, and emergency preparedness events.

Education

  • Required: High school diploma/GED

Experience

  • Preferred: Progressive experience in hospital security, law enforcement, criminal justice agencies, or military duty with honorable discharge

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to respond quickly and calmly if individuals exhibit threatening behavior

  • Strong conflict resolution skills

  • Ability to relate events both orally and in writing

  • Basic use of a computer, email, and incident-reporting, alarm, and CCTV systems

  • Ability to rotate shifts as needed

  • Ability to wear a respirator device

  • Ability to demonstrate issued weapons proficiency annually

Licenses and Certifications

  • Required (upon hire): Driver's License - Department of Motor Vehicles

  • Required (within 3 months): PA Act 235 - Pennsylvania State Police
