AMD together we advance_

THE ROLE:

AMD is looking for a Numerical Architect leader passionate about driving the cutting-edge numerical modelling & algorithm design for AMD's next generation graphics IP design. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in driving cutting-edge numerical modelling strategy enabling validation & verification to achieve industry leading numerical quality and productivity under tight schedule. In this role the candidate will work with architecture team, modelling team, design team and central formal verification team to define our numerical modelling roadmap, strategy, methodology, infrastructure and guarantee robust numerical model adoption throughout all aspects of project execution. The candidate will be the primary point of contact for all GFXIP numerical modelling & validation practice.

You will be a member of a core team of incredibly talented industry specialists and will work with the latest and rapidly evolving graphics IP design.

THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate should have demonstrated rich experience in numerical modelling techniques for all past, present and future emerging number systems and operations across complicated modern processors (CPU, GPU, AI processor, etc.) and must possess leadership skills to influence and drive the whole numerical modelling process throughout GFXIP. Able to communicate effectively and work optimally with different teams across the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define long-term strategy for numerical modelling verification expansion and steer the technical roadmap
  • Develop numerical modelling techniques for all current and future number systems, precisions and accuracies for all operations - enabling micro/architecture to express numerical intent at speed
  • Produce C++ that enables all consumers of numerical models, multiple simulator teams, formal verification, verification & validation teams
  • Vision and deploy validation strategies to guarantee generated models are trusted, enabling & collaborating on validation strategies from model checking and theorem proving
  • Teach number systems to accelerate design & debug of architecture, design & verification of numerical designs
  • Collaborate with micro/architecture of inventing new number systems that meet application & hardware performance requirements
  • Enable verification dynamic simulation/formal verification or numerical algorithms
  • Drive improvements in natural language and machine readable numerical specifications

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • In-depth knowledge of IEEE 754 floating-point & OCP arithmetic
  • Proven expertise in modelling numerical hardware for modern processors (GPU, CPU, AI, etc)
  • Knowledge of tools and techniques for improving numerical algorithm accuracy
  • Experience of numerical algorithm design to meet application-level requirements
  • Experience with model & equivalency checking tools for numerical hardware, DPV, FPV, DPV, SEC
  • Experience with MPFR or other golden reference implementations of arithmetic
  • Academic collaborations enabling continuous access to latest numerical research

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

Undergrad degree required. Master or PhD degree in Computer Science/ Computer Engineering/ Electrical Engineering preferred
