Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the senior director of content strategy, the senior writer is responsible for leading the development of storytelling content highlighting Loyola's academic excellence and strategic priorities. An integral member of the Content Team within University Marketing and Communication ( UMC), this role works collaboratively with stakeholders across the University and with UMC colleagues including communications, marketing, creative, social, and multimedia to produce content across a range of media and channels.
Responsibilities:

  • Take the lead on story generation, conducting a regular intake of ideas from internal stakeholders across the University to build out the editorial calendar with stories that appeal to a wide audience and show the larger impact of Loyola on individuals and communities.
  • Support the University's communications and marketing initiatives by developing relevant and engaging content for print and web communications in a style and tone that convey University-wide branding and enhance reputation, recruitment, retention, and relationships.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and sources across the University to create short- and long-form stories for multiple channels (magazines, web, social media) and a variety of audiences (students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, general community, etc.).
  • Research and develop stories, including editing, review, and approval with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Work with school- and unit-based marketing and communications staff to ensure their content aligns with University themes and priorities and that writing is consistent with Loyola's style and tone.
  • Consult with Creative and Multimedia Teams on visual assets to accompany stories; produced to deadline.
  • Collaborate with the senior director of University branding, photographers/videographers, motion graphics artist, and web developers to optimize, re-purpose, and share content across multiple channels.
  • Contribute to research and development of Op-eds, web content, and other written communication materials, as needed.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and style across University messaging by proofreading and editing materials developed by other members of the Marketing and Communication team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Bachelor's degree in related field and two-three years of relevant experience in a not for profit organization.
Qualifications

  • Must be comfortable writing for all mediums (i.e. print, web, radio, social media, internal and external communications, etc.).
  • Must also be skilled in editing/proofreading copy in accordance with a style manual. Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded communicator with a creative and consistent voice that captivates several audiences including prospective students, alumni, and the general public.
  • Impeccable communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to handle several projects at once and prioritize work assignments in a fast- paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Skilled in collaboration, input, and the ability to work with a variety of people and departments across the University.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong, self-directed work ethic.
  • Strong organization and project management skills.
  • Creativity and ability to produce innovative and original ideas.
  • High ethical standards and integrity required.
