Position Summary: YMCA of Greater Houston's Early Learning Instructional Coach is a grant-funded position, that supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This position will provide instructional leadership and professional development for classroom teachers in implementing the grant-funded Early Childhood English Learners Initiative (ECELI) program. The Instructional Coach will create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while inspiring youth and staff to discover their passions. This position will enthusiastically represent the Y by displaying a positive attitude, maintaining a high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job. The position must maintain a culture of inclusion, integrity, character, and life-long learning within the YMCA that reinforces, encourages and promotes values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. The Early Learning Instructional Coach will be responsible for coaching and mentoring classroom teachers at two specific YMCA early care centers participating in the ECELI program in integrating best practices and resources to support English Learners and their families enrolled in the program. The incumbent will be expected to model best practices on parent engagement, language and literacy development, and social-emotional development of English Learners, between zero and three. The Early Childhood English Learners Initiative (ECELI) aims to support the success of English Learners (ELs) enrolled in licensed facility and home childcare programs in underserved, low-income Harris County communities. The initiative is intended to identify best practices and resources needed to provide a robust professional development model for early childhood leaders, teachers, and families of English learners, ages zero to three. The Early Learning Instructional Coach will also assist in supporting teachers that need additional support in the classroom, at specific early care sites. Essential Functions:

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES May directly supervises full time and part time employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; reviewing and approving timesheets; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; monitoring and updating all required staff certifications; addressing complaints and resolving problems. COMPUTER LITERACY Skills are essential in all of the Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Access. Ability to use these programs to lighten workload, develop reports and to automate procedures is very necessary. Ability to diagnose basic PC problems and to communicate those problems is very important. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. TRAVEL Travel is primarily local between assigned centers during the workday, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
