Job Profile Summary:

The Institutional Project Portfolio Manager I (PPM I) role is responsible for supporting the management of the enterprise PMO. In this role, the manager will support the lifecycle of a large portfolio, lead portfolio and program-level reviews, optimize processes and best practices, identify areas for improvement, report analyses, and create stakeholder engagement. The PPM I will coordinate with executive leaders to plan and align programs and projects to the organization's strategic priorities and initiatives.

The PPM I role is responsible for the management, coordination, and continuous improvement of the project portfolio process across multiple PMOs, to ensure a unified approach for managing projects and programs, investment decision making, and tracking portfolio health.

The PPM I reports to the Senior Manager of Institutional Portfolio Management in the CFO organization.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with leadership on the definition of strategic objectives to define portfolio objectives.
  • Analyzes and reports on the impact of portfolio against strategic goals.
  • Advises leadership on prioritization and ongoing optimization of the project portfolio based on project metrics and KPIs.
  • Reports on portfolio progress, performance, and risks to stakeholders using metrics, data visualization, and executive communications.
  • Escalates issues that threaten portfolio and project success.
  • Coordinates with project and program managers on the execution of components within a portfolio.
  • Provides recommendations on resource allocation and manage coordination between resource managers.
  • Develops and implements portfolio management methodologies and best practices to elevate the skills and capabilities at the team and organization level.
  • Advises in the establishment and reinforcement of common practices, tools, and templates for portfolio and project management, and ensure adherence to company and legal standards.
  • Consults and trains leaders and users on reporting and dashboarding using the PPM tool, ServiceNow.
  • Collaboration with EdTech engineering teams and PPM tool vendors regarding the permissions, development and architecture needs of our project and portfolio teams within our PPM platform.
  • Coordinates with Enterprise Change Management and Enterprise Risk Management office on the implementation impact of portfolio components.
  • Manages and implements continuous improvement opportunities for the project intake, prioritization, reporting, and planning process.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree One of the following certifications: PMP, PgMP, PfMP
  • 10 years of professional experience in project/change management in a large and distributed organization (5000+ employees).
  • 5 years of experience as the assigned project manager wit the sole responsibility for project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure
  • 5 years of experience in business transformation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification
  • Experience with ServiceNow

Working Location:

  • This position is in-office in Salt Lake City, UT

The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:

Pay Range: $106,700.00 - $165,400.00
