General Information:

Risk Management at James Madison University (JMU) is accepting applications for a Safety and Training Officer who enjoys learning, teaching and helping JMU further a culture of safety.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Provide consistent monitoring and compliance enforcement of all applicable fire, safety and environmental health laws, codes, best work practices and standards in all campus facilities and on the campus grounds and accomplishes same through hazard recognition and analysis.

* Provide safety awareness training for employees and students on individual and group basis.

* Develop occupational safety training for JMU to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

* Investigate all occupational hazards concerning JMU-owned facilities and equipment.

* Ensure compliance with standards and regulations designed to protect the health and safety of employees.

* Adept at database management and interfacing with learning management systems. Oversee learning management system which includes but is not limited to adding/deleting users, updating roles, learning assignments, identifying additional training needs, and reporting.

* Manage driver monitoring system through DMV extranet.

* Ensure compliance with CDL driver quarterly random drug screenings in cooperation with contracted medical facility and maintain current records regarding the CDL program and DOT Clearinghouse.

* Monitor and process documentation associated with the University's Asbestos and Respirator programs.

* Ensures all records meet internal and external business and legal standards, and follows appropriate university and regulatory standards, guidelines, and approval processes. Lead or participate on university committees and teams.

* Employee may be expected to travel for training.

* Perform other significant duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
* Superior customer service skills
* Tech-savvy with strong research and organizational skills
* Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and excellent computer skills including experience managing databases
* Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with customers at all levels of the university and external partners
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Ability to multi-task and handle confidential information
* Must be dependable and willing to work independently as well as part of a team
* Desire to learn and educate the campus community on occupational health and safety-related codes, standards, and best practices
