Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Laboratory/Technical Assistant in the Department of Chemistry. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, this Laboratory/Technical Assistant provides experimental and data analysis responsibilities.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Designs and conducts wet-lab experiments aimed at refining binding conditions and assessing interaction efficiencies in the context of experimental optimization of DNA/RNA binding.
- Analyzes and reports the data obtained from the experimental optimization of DNA/RNA binding.
This position is contingent on the continuation of external funding. |

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.

Equipment Utilized |
- Regularly uses spectrophotometers for measuring absorbance and concentration of nucleic acids; thermal cyclers for PCR and other amplification techniques; and gel electrophoresis to analyze nucleic acid integrity and binding results and and management, and knows or will learn all equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Laboratory environment and laboratory work such as pipetting, handling samples, and operating equipment, which require manual precision.
- May necessitate standing for extended periods, moving equipment, and lifting supplies.
