Gundersen Health System is looking for a dedicated Staff Pharmacist to join our retail pharmacies in the La Crosse area.

What You'll Do:
  • Deliver LOVE + MEDICINE pharmaceutical care primarily in our La Crosse locations with occasional shifts in Tomah and Prairie du Chien
  • Oversee and supervise all manufacturing and compounding activities.
  • Choose a flexible schedule with 0.6-0.8 FTE (48-64 hours every 2 weeks) between 7:45 am - 6:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with rotating weekend shifts

What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Immunization certification (e.g., APhA, PSW).
  • Pharmacist license to practice in the state of employment.
  • Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Job Description:

The Pharmacist provides pharmaceutical care for our patients. Works with and supervises all manufacturing and compounding in the pharmacy.

Major Responsibilities:
1. Prepares and/or maintains written control over medication dispensing and manufacturing. Understands and uses pharmacy reference material for drug information. Maintains adequate inventory of pharmaceuticals and other supplies.
2. Interprets, clarifies, and evaluates appropriateness of medication orders for physicians and others credentialed or privileged to prescribe medication.
3. Is competent in providing care to all age categories of patients served, modifying drug therapy as appropriate for the neonatal, pediatric, adult, and elderly populations.
4. Understands the functionality available within the pharmacy computer system and is competent in applying appropriately.
5. Participates in the drug education of others both inside and outside the department. Participates in continuing education programs as required by state law.
6. Adequately oversees the pharmacy operations, maintaining an atmosphere of professionalism and efficiency for completion of the tasks at hand with the technician, intern, and ancillary staff.
7. Works with other healthcare providers and relevant policy-making and ad-hoc committees to establish cost management programs that improve drug therapy outcomes (efficacy, safety, cost effectiveness) and overall quality of patient care.

8. Adheres to regular and predictable attendance.
9. Personally interacts, engages with and cares for patients.
10. Ensures patient safety.
11. Performs other job-related responsibilities as requested.

Education and Learning:
REQUIRED

Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited School of Pharmacy

Pharmacists working in outpatient pharmacy settings need immunization certification through an accredited organization or school of pharmacy (e.g. APhA, PSW)

Work Experience:
REQUIRED
1 year ambulatory pharmaceutical experience (for clinic/ambulatory practice areas) or hospital pharmaceutical experience (for inpatient practice areas)

License and Certifications:
REQUIRED

Pharmacist license to practice in the state of employment, some positions may require multiple state licenses.

  • Dependent on field of practice, a pharmacist may be required to obtain additional credentials.

Pharmacists working in outpatient pharmacy settings need A current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
