Position Overview
As a Nursing Support Technician (NST) in the Float Unit, you'll bring your skills and compassion to various specialized units throughout the hospital. Floating across departments such as Med/Surg, Orthopedics, ICU, and Oncology, you'll address diverse patient needs while filling critical gaps to ensure consistent, high-quality care across Grady. This role requires flexibility and adaptability as you move between units, responding to the unique demands and challenges each setting presents.
What You'll Do:
- Deliver compassionate, culturally sensitive, and age-appropriate care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Physician.
- Support daily living activities, provide comfort measures, and assist with nourishment to promote patient well-being.
- Collect and communicate vital information, ensuring accurate records and timely updates.
- Perform selected tasks and therapies as delegated by licensed professionals, utilizing technology and maintaining a safe, supportive environment.
- Serve as an advocate for patients and engage in teaching and performance improvement initiatives.
- Perform both basic and advanced tasks, validated by competency assessments, to meet the diverse needs of patients across units.
- NSTs in the Float Unit may also be cross-trained to act as patient safety monitors or unit clerks, offering additional support as needed.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- To be qualified for this role, candidates must possess one of the following:
- Current Georgia Nursing Assistant Certification or
- Certificate of Completion from an Accredited Patient Care Technician (PCT) Program or
- Completion of a Basic Nursing Fundamentals Course, as shown on an official transcript from an accredited School of Nursing.
