Reporting to the Center Manager, the Activities Assistant will be responsible for providing recreational programs to the frail elderly at the Senior Healthcare Day Center. The Activities Assistant will support Activity Coordinators and contribute to monthly calendars.

Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Builds within the Day Health Center a sense of community and a warm social atmosphere in which the participants can identify a support system.
  • Assists with planning, preparing and leading large and small-scale group activities which include but are not limited to exercises, news discussions, arts and crafts, music, cultural groups, cognitive groups, and community outings.
  • Assists with planning parties, holiday and birthday celebrations.
  • Encourages isolated participants towards group participation through one-on-one interactions.
  • Assists with all general activities at the center to meet participants' needs when necessary including personal care, transportation, & meal service, as assigned.
  • Assists in preparing, distributing and posting monthly calendar of activities.
  • Conducts and documents quarterly participant assessments in EHR.
  • Conducts other record keeping and administrative assignments required of the job.
  • Encourages and participates in actions that promote good public relations with clients, their families and friends, visitors, and the community.
  • Promotes customer service as a primary goal, through direct actions and, by example, to other staff
  • All other reasonably related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One-year experience working with older adults.
  • One-year experience leading activities programs for the elderly or one-year equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Ability to comprehend complex written material and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to communicate and speak clearly in English.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other related programs.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One year of professional work experience or volunteer experience with frail elders with dementia and/or age-related issues.
  • Interest and ability to work within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to conscientiously follow directions.
  • Interest and willingness to work in a multilingual, multicultural environment.
  • Stability, maturity, imagination, and flexibility in work.
  • Fluency in English required; Bilingual in Cantonese, Spanish, or Russian highly preferred
  • Strong leadership skills preferred.
  • Ability to problem-solve and practice conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Cantonese Highly Preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift, transfer, push/pull, maneuver, and reposition 35 lbs.
  • Ability to reach, bend and walk.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Five finger Dexterity.

COMPENSATION:

Range: $ 20 - 23/Hourly

This amount is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, nor a promise of any specific pay for any specific employee, which is always dependent on actual experience, education and other factor

This range does not include any additional equity, benefits, or other non-monetary compensation which may be included.
